Parasite is a title that made me wonder how come it was awarded Best Picture at the Academy Award earlier this year. I wanted to find out and decided to watch it over the last weekend. And I loved it!
Spoiler alert: Don't read this if you haven't seen the movie yet.
Here is why I love this movie:
1- Suspense: It keeps you at the edge of your seat from beginning to end. You are totally present in the movie and your mind doesn't have time to wander elsewhere.
2- Have no plans: Everything was going well for the main characters in the movie until the unexpected turn of events. And there is this remarkable scene where one of the protagonists convincingly argues that having no plan is the best plan.
3- The open-ended ending: At the end of the movie, the son reveals a plan on how he will free his father. The idea is to first become rich before anything else. It's the theme that money will solve all problems in the end. For a minute, you think that he actually made it. However, in the end, we do not know if he will succeed or not. It's always nice to let a viewer decide how they would like the movie to end.
So, what does all this have to do with my Money Coach blog? While I love the elements above in a movie, they can create unwanted suspense in financial planning. Even if life does not go according to plan, it is well worth it to plan ahead. In the end, you write your own story and having a life plan which includes a financial plan is much better than not having a plan at all.
